Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all you daddies out there! Hope it's been a really good one for you. We went down to see D.B. and Mama today, and had a good visit with them. He's getting around so much better now - even going out in the yard some. He's not supposed to be in the heat at all, though, and June in East Texas is all about heat! I took him a fig cake - his favorite!

Have you ever visited the FindAGrave website? Some time back, I requested a photo of my daddy's military marker. A fellow grave hunter found it - after some considerable time and trouble, and getting a city worker with a probe involved in the search. They found the marker under about 8 inches of dirt.

So, on the way to Houston on Thursday, we stopped by the memorial place in Cleveland, and I ordered a granite base to be put under the stone, and the whole thing is to be reset at the grave. I haven't been there in years, and had no idea it was that bad. My next goal is to have a double stone set to mark my grandparents' graves.

I have been elected to the State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division as District 14 Director. D14 consists of 29 counties in East Texas - from Texarkana down the Louisiana state line, across the bottom of Angelina and surrounding counties, over past Canton, and back up a county or two away from the Oklahoma line. Lots of real estate to cover. The Division had its annual meeting the week just ended, in Houston.

Since I tend to be somewhat directionally challenged, Lonnie drove me down there on Thursday. We drove through a terrible storm for about two hours, but once we got south of Carthage, it all cleared up and the weather was beautiful the whole time we were in Houston. Coming back Saturday afternoon, though, we ran into an even worse storm between Porter and Cleveland, and had to fight it for about an hour's drive.

We stayed at the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Houston, and had our Board meetings there. The annual meeting was held at the Houston Club, a few blocks away. Very nice places, great vendors, productive meetings. Our next meeting will be in Dallas in early October.
