Fabric flowers

A while back I saw the idea for using a CD as a template for making fabric flower petals. Seemed like a good idea, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Actually, rather than risk scratching a CD, I used the plastic insert that comes with a cylinder of CD's. I used a pencil and traced around it on the "wrong" side of the fabric.

It takes five circles to make enough petals for a flower. Just fold the circles in half (I folded them on the bias), run a basting stitch across the raw edge, and gather it.

Stitch your petals together at the corners and, voila, you have a flower! I've still got to find just the right color to make the center, though. I'll either make a yo-yo or a biscuit for that, and maybe adorn it with some beads for contrast.
