Doing any canning? Don't boil the jar lids.

I just read in my new Mary Jane's Farm magazine that Jarden Home Products has made some changes to the way they make their Ball and Kerr lids. They are now BPA-free (this is a good thing). The undercoating has changed. This coating thins when heated to a boil, which could cause a false seal or might fail to seal at all. According to a Ball representative, the lids just need to be washed with warm soapy water and left on the countertop at room temperature.

To read more about BPA, check out the article on the Mayo Clinic website.
