The Legacy

We drove over to Hughes Springs this evening for the grand opening of the new event center there. It's absolutely gorgeous! It has a grand staircase and black wrought-iron railings around the upper level. They used old brick on the outside. I wish The Legacy had been open when I was searching for a location for our wedding reception.

Several of the area businesses were present for this event.

Jan and Bud Bryant, who own Something Special (which is actually in downtown Daingerfield) were there, and had a table covered with some of the beautiful things from their shop. They had some little purses that have phone chargers built right in. What a great idea! I'd never seen those before. Jan and Bud decorate our firm's office buildings every year for Christmas.

Teel & Co. also had a beautiful layout on their table. They have a great selection of gifts, and can also get you fixed up with invitations, monogrammed napkins, and such.

You-Niquely Yours, of course, was represented too, but I didn't see Tra. Darlene had several pieces of jewelry and gift items from her shop displayed.

Blue Sky Weddings & Floral Designs (which is right next door to You-NiquelyYours) was there. La Elegancia en Fiesta sent folks over from Mount Pleasant. And there were couple of other businesses I didn't even know were in Hughes Springs--Al Gunkel's Massage Therapy, and K-Renee Designs. K-Renee had the absolutely cutest cupcakes I have ever seen in my life! They looked like high-heel shoes! Too, too, too cute! I'm going to try to make some. (If they don't turn out right, I guess I'll just have to order them from K-Renee!)

There were several lodging places represented as well, notably Colonel Hughes Lodging. I stayed there once, many years ago, and didn't even know it was still around. It's a beautiful loft apartment that is great, if you don't mind climbing the stairs.

I thought at first that there were three photography studios in Hughes Springs, but when I started looking them up online, I found out that only one was actually from there: Mel's Photography. Two were from other places: Front Porch Treasures Studio from Linden, and C&K Photography out of Tyler. They all had some gorgeous examples of their work.

Several restaurants and a caterer were set up, and we got to sample their wares--yum! Taste This is the caterer, and had some scrumptious Cajun chicken. Five D Cattle Company, from Avinger, was there with samples of their steak and grilled chicken. JB's Hotlinks had pulled pork in addition to their hotlinks. Don Juan's had fajitas and all the trimmings. I just grabbed some of their chips and guacamole. (I love their guacamole!) Greg's Subway had a long table full of all kinds of sandwiches.

Who knew there was so much to be had in such a tiny little town? Now, if we could just get Daingerfield on board!
