Library things

The Longview News-Journal had an article in today's paper about the Rusk County Library System. Rusk library system adds programs, facility - Longview News-Journal: Local News

I'm so glad to see that the libraries in Mount Enterprise and Tatum are beefing up their programs. Mount Enterprise is getting a new library building - almost 8,000 square feet, even though the tiny little burg only has 447 residents. Wow. Through countless bake sales and other fundraisers, the facility is fully funded without state or federal funds. Double Wow. Programs for both kids and adults are planned.

The Tatum library will begin offering GED courses, and is looking for a few educators to help teach the class about two nights a week. The librarian there also plans to have computer classes for elderly or inexperienced people, and offer other programs, including movie nights featuring novels that have been turned into films.

Pretty cool stuff going on there. If you know anything about these two little towns, there is really nothing for people to do. Tatum residents go to Longview for entertainment, and Mount Enterprise folks, I guess, have to drive to Henderson or Nacogdoches. I'm really glad to see that the libraries are taking the initiative to improve the options.

I just wish we could come up with some good ideas for Daingerfield - well, good ideas that would actually be accepted, that is!
