In the yard

I have the day off today because it's Memorial Day. Lonnie's been watching various TV programs about veterans. Your president even placed a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I guess he couldn't come up with an excuse this year.

Meanwhile, I took a stroll out in the yard to see what I could see. The first stop, of course, was the bird nest beside the back door.

I can see four little heads. It's pretty crowded in there, and I can't tell whether there's a 5th one, but I hope there is.

Our beautiful orange lilies are just setting their little world on fire. It's absolutely fabulous when the morning sun spotlights them.

The two hosta plants that Lonnie put in the front flower bed are blooming. I don't know what's happened to the leaves, but they look kinda ratty.

I don't know the name of this little beauty, but isn't it pretty? We just have the one plant. Last year when it bloomed, I cut the flowers and included them in an arrangement of assorted others, and they really added an extra dimension to it.

These are our purplish lilies that grow down the south side of the house. Lonnie transplanted most of them when he built the deck on the back of the house.

Can't forget the produce! Instead of a regular garden this year, Lonnie wanted to try container gardening. All we planted were tomatoes and peppers, here near the deck, and cilantro out by the orange lilies.

And this is the dwarf lemon tree I bought Lonnie for Christmas in 2007. The tree hasn't grown much since then, but it sure puts on a lot of good-smelling flowers. Last year, if you'll remember, we got two huge lemons from it. There are quite a few this year.
