There is a hotly-contested school bond issue here right now. I've tried to listen to both sides of the argument and make a decision based on reality, not emotions.
As far as I can tell, the only people pushing for the bond (over $28 million) are the people who work for the school. I've read propaganda from both sides, and find the "yes" people's reasoning to be very shallow indeed. They say children will learn better in a new school building. Really? I never attended school in a new building, and was in the top 10% of my class, from 1st grade all the way through college. Boy, just imagine what I could have done if the taxpayers had only built me a new school!
The last school bond that was passed here was supposed to have gone, at least in part, to fix up the football stadium, as I understand it. Now, they want to use a large chunk of the new millions to build something similar to Cowboy Stadium in this little town.
Now, I'm all for giving kids a good education, and I know we want our kids to have better than we did and do better than we have done. But, you know, I think a part of that education has to be that we must live within our means. If you only have a dollar, you don't go spend five dollars! Unless, of course, you're in charge of the U.S. government's printing presses and can just print out a few more billions. But don't get me started on that!
The damage you see to the "no" sign in the picture...well, I'll be really interested to see who's behind it. There were two of them damaged in a similar manner (except with orange florescent paint added to one), and several of the "no" yard signs have been stolen. Is this what our educators are teaching the kids...to destroy anything that gets between you and what you want?
