This comes around every year - the traditional family gatherings where you get to see relatives you really like, as well as some you're not even sure are yours.
The Hollis reunion was at Lake Madison on the 21st, a bit earlier than usual, but we didn't go. I had just returned from two road trips (Fort Worth and Atlanta),and I just couldn't bear the idea of riding another seven hours. But we did make it to the gathering at Trevat on the 28th. Yours Truly was elected as a board member of the Trevat Cemetery Association. I have no idea what the board does, but I've asked for copies of the bylaws and standing rules so I can familiarize myself with them. Mother has decided she wants to be buried there, between her daddy and her favorite aunt, and she wants us to stay connected with the cemetery. I figure I'll be able to help with the decision-making a bit.
Oh, and this coming Saturday is the homecoming at Bethlehem Cemetery, where Lonnie and I (as well as Carrie and her Lonny) will probably be buried. This reunion stuff could go on for months!
But just the same, I love genealogy, and what better way to find those hidden gems than meeting and greeting all those cousins?
