Playing Catch-Up

I haven't posted anything at all this year, it seems. And here we are, already at Daylight Savings Time. Wow. Where has the time gone?

Have you enjoyed all the icy weather we've had lately? We haven't had it as bad as other folks in the surrounding areas - at least not much snow - but it's been plenty cold!

This is about all the snow we got, but the temperature got down in the 20s.

A few weeks ago, we went to the Daingerfield Fire Department's award banquet, and then the Chamber of Commerce's annual awards banquet the next week. It's great to see deserving people be recognized for their hard work. The Chamber has a silent auction, too, where local businesses and interested residents donate things to be sold. The proceeds go to fund the community-wide Easter egg hunt and the Christmas parade.

Daingerfield Country Club has a new owner - did I tell you that already? Mitch is pouring money and labor into it, and plans to make it the best 9-hole golf course in this area. It already doesn't even look like the same place. He's cut down a whole lot of trees - too many, I think - but then, that's just my opinion. They've filled in the old swimming pool and are going to build a new one. Same thing for the cart sheds - out with the old, in with the new. He's had a couple of dinners out there for the members. The club house looks really nice with all the new paint and flooring. And it doesn't stink any more! He's had it thoroughly cleaned, and won't let anybody smoke inside any more.

Someone has bought the house two doors north of us, and has been doing an awful lot of work on it. One day he showed up with a big ol' tractor and started clearing the alleyway that runs behind our subdivision. It's never been cleaned up since the subdivision was built, and had a number of dead trees and junk out there. We still have woods behind the house, but it looks better now.

I made a pineapple-upside-down cake Thursday - probably the first time in 20 years! I made two "baby cakes" for Lonnie and me, and took the big one to work. It turned out really good. There was some left, so we're going to have another piece after supper tonight.

I went to get the Camaro inspected yesterday afternoon, and when I got home, look what was sitting on the kitchen table!

My buddy Paul, with U.S. Legal Support up in New York, sent them to me. Works out pretty good - I send him deposition work, and he sends me flowers! Of course, Max thinks they're for him (he eats flowers), so I had to put them in the bathroom and shut the door.
